I had a nightmare! It wasn’t your typical dream of standing on top of a skyscraper and falling down, to then jump-scare awake. My jump scare was quite different; it involved a spider. This medium-sized black spider jumped at me as I was fast asleep. It came at me so quickly that my body physically jumped out of bed while my scream shook me awake. I’ve never had a dream like this but it was the death of me! For a long few minutes, I sat on my white faux fur rug, grateful for the soft landing, but in disbelief and trying to process what in the world just happened.
The next morning, I completed an Instacart run and Uber Eats delivery then I searched my phone about my dream. This is what the Google.com search said:
Even though I had a friend explain that you may never know the meaning of dreams. I believe the opposite. Dreams have meaning(s) and can be interpreted, it’s biblical and also a reality of life. We dream because we face things throughout the day, and in our lives, that our brain has to process the best way it can. Sleeping and the dream world is a mystery to me but I think there is merit to the part of my Google search that emphasized being trapped in a bad financial situation.
I’ve been working through the struggles of figuring out my finances. My job helps but I have a huge consumerism problem. I want to buy things all the time to fill a void or to supply a need. I don’t want to have this impulsiveness for unnecessary purchases but I feel that it is a huge way of the history of my life. I used extreme minimalist practices to get out of debt and the same practices to save money. It’s a lot to deal with when I have a strong urge to “treat myself” but I’m grateful that I catch when I have overspending moments. I’m also grateful that I’m self-aware enough to recognize that I need a change.
The best thing I can do is recognize that the spider isn’t real so then my fear of being in a bad financial situation isn’t actually reality but just fear.
I need to use gratitude to recognize that loving myself enough to see I’m doing amazing is the best thing I can do for now.
I’m going to do my best to seek out ways to use positive saving tactics for the end of this year, and going forward to 2024, by being mindful of my spending!
Tips that I’ve used for overspending:
- Make a list on paper of desired items to purchase, with checkboxes, and purchase items off the list when needed not just wanted
- Find ways to get cash back on spending through rebate apps
- Put items in an online shopping cart then forget about it for 24-48 hours. Review the cart then change your mind or adjust accordingly
- Save – figure out a dollar amount to save even if it’s just $5 to put away and store in an envelope, like the cash envelope system. Make a goal of the amount saved to then spend or put in a bank account when needed.
I want to encourage you to save and be mindful of your spending too. It’s not easy but a community full of people doing the same thing will lead to a positive change from a dream with a jumping spider – to a life full of intentional abundance.
